About
Four decades ago, young at age Rebekka decided to dedicate art and designing her time and passion. Her driving force is diverse, from working on the little things that create the overall picture as well as the overall picture itself. Always guided by beauty and balance of perception with respect for nature, people involved and the participants.
Over 30 years of experience as a freelance theatre designer and maker where she has been writing, directing, designing and making her own theatre performances and theatrical installations since 1992. Creates site-specific performances, performance installations, and walking performances. Working in contemporary and experimental theatre, directing and designing stage and costume with theatre groups like, Second Hand Women in Czech Republic, Silo theatre, Dogtrop and Hollandia in The Netherlands. Decades of experience in designing both sets and costumes for theatre, television, advertising, music videos, and films. With theatres like: Icelandic National theatre and City Theatre Reykjavík and City theatre Akureyri, Room 408 and Komedia theatre in Iceland, Divadlo Komedie, Divadlo Archa and the Czech National Theatre in Prague. Designing along with it environments for various events, both large and small both in Iceland and central Europe.
Rebekka designed the Icelandic pavilion at the 12th Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space in 2011. After her participation she worked as one of their artistic consultant and artistic team member from 2012 until 2016. And in 2015 she curate for the Makers project. That year PQ was recognised by the EFFE Awards as one of the most trend-setting European festivals.
Since 2009 she has been giving workshops in stage and costume design for The National theatre of Iceland for a project called “Þjóðleikur”. From 2008 - 2013 she gave workshops in production design, art direction and costume design at the Icelandic film school. And since 2006 been giving workshops on a regular basis in department of theatre and performance art and making in Performing Arts in the Icelandic University of Arts. Many years of hands on international experience in the performing arts has given her a unique management skills, and even more passion for the arts, and an insider's understanding of creative and team processes. She has a large international network, a service interest for communicating with and connecting people across professions, nationalities, genders and ages.
She has lived, learned and worked in central Europe for over 30 years, including Austria, Denmark, Holland, Germany, Greenland and Czech Republic. And for the last 15 years her work bace is Reykjavík and she works in central Europe on a project based work.
